Green employee hunting ?
Surely not!
With the overwhelming success of the internet over the recent years it could be said that trading online is one of the most effective was to conduct business in a ‘green’ manor. Lets take a look at how advertising for skilled staff can reduce your ‘carbon footprint’.
The paper chase!
In years gone by, the most frequently used method to find staff was to advertise a vacancy in the local press (paper), the job seeker would apply for the advertised position via post with their CV & Cover letter (paper). The employer would write to the job seeker inviting them to interview or rejecting the applicant (paper). The successful applicants would write to the employer confirming their acceptance and attendance to interview (paper). Rather a lot of paper, envelopes and stamps involved here!
Zero paper – better result?
Nowadays’, more and more employers are utilising the power of the internet to find and attract he right calibre of staff, and why wouldn’t they, after all, do you know anyone who does not use the internet? 2009 has seen more adverts placed on-line than in the local/national press and it looks like this trend is set to stay. Advertising online will also expose your vacancy to a broader more comprehensive audience – its like posting your vacancy in ALL the regional papers
The online method reduces carbon footprints and saves forests! Fact. Let’s look at the online process.
Employer advertises a vacancy on the job board (electronically) the job seeker see’s the vacancy and applies with their CV and cover letter (electronically), the employer either accepts and invites for interview or rejects the candidate after viewing the CV on their computer (electronically). The successful interviewees’ accepts and confirms their attendance (electronically). The job seeker will then search online for the employer’s web site to find out more about them (electronically) – no more asking for company literature. Obviously, the electronic process is a faster way to communicate when compared to the postage process
Would you agree that this is a strong case that advertising online is the greenest way to find staff? It may also be worth noting that the job board can then bill and/or accept payment online further reducing the amount of paper sent between companies. Now, should we add that if using a charged laptop there isn’t even any nationally generated electricity used…..
Taking on the recession and WINNING!
Vaults FC
Earlier this year a group of mainly unemployed Malvern & Worcester based men decided to do something about their predicament and decided to form a new football team.
Being decidedly positive about their situation, not only did they successfully form a team but also managed to secure sponsorship from two large Malvern & Worcester based companies.
The new team ‘The Vaults FC’ proactively approached The Vaults Public House in Malvern and JobPatch.com based in Worcester and negotiated a great sponsorship deal that enabled them to purchase a Home and Away Kit, join the Worcester league, purchase balls, training equipment and even bespoke drinks bottles.
Phil Sharples, MD of JobPatch.com (now sponsors of the team) said “I was approached completely ‘out of the blue’ by Ray Pearce & Richard Proberts as a possible sponsor for their team. I was very impressed with their negotiating skills and the manner they conducted themselves selling the benefits of the association to me. It was almost impossible to refuse. They proved to be very impressive potential salesmen and we are now working with the team to help those still unemployed find potential employers”
This really is a fine example of how to be proactive, take on the recession and succeed.

As of the 3rd January 2009, Jobpatch.com has been informed by Hitwise.com that we hold the biggest share of the market (in the country) for the search term 'jobs in worcester'
What does this mean?
Basically, whenever anyone enters the query 'jobs in worcester' into a search engine such as Google.com, 24.6% of the entire market clicks through to our website. A significant number of people!
The Managing Directors of JobPatch.com (Steve Hayman & Phil Sharples) put this down to intelligent internet Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising and good geographical placements for their adverts. Phil said, "Our current PPC adverts enjoy a high quality score, this means that most all users clicking through to our site, arrive, stay and return again." He went onto say, "We are also currently working with our Web Development Team to improve our 'organic' rankings on search engines. When all this is in place we are confident that our market share for many key 'job related' search queries will increase to even greater levels".
